Making Her Therapist Mommy Proud

Much to my relief, Azalea loves her tummy time. She’s been popping that little head up since she was wee tiny and now she loves playing with her toys while on her tummy. Every once in a while she’ll let me watch her roll from her tummy to her back, but I think she likes to keep that hidden talent mostly to herself.

Since I’ve been working in early intervention for almost two years, I can’t help but know what developmental milestones should be next. I try my hardest to pretend I don’t care and just go with the Zayley flow but sometimes I fail. Every once in a while my head starts talking to me like a therapist… “well, I would expect her to be doing blah blah right now,” “we’re going to keep our eyes out for yadda yadda,” “I wouldn’t be surprised if in the next couple of weeks she diggity dig.” (Okay, and by the way...this is ridiculous of me because she is age apprpriate on EVERYTHING) Usually eating an Otter Pop and tickling Zayley will put these thoughts out of my mind, but occasionally I have to bring it up with Azalea.

Zayley, being the wonderful baby that she is, takes my concerns under advisement. For example, I’ve asked her to start rolling from her back to her tummy, and she’s halfway there. I’d like to hear some raspberries and she’s working on something that looks like them. Finally, I can’t wait for her to suck on her toes…and she’s grabbing at her feet. I’m pretty much banking on the fact that she’s going to do everything I ask her to do for the rest of her life.
